Western Mexico

The western coast of Mexico from Mazatlan to Acapulco and beyond is a popular yachting destination for good reason. The region offers the finest in Mexican culture, cuisine, nightlife, gold-sand beaches, sportfishing and, of course, tequila. Below are just several possible stops along the way as you cruise Mexico onboard your private yacht charter.

Mazatlan- Not as flashy as some of the resort towns to the south, Mazatlan is a working seaport bustling with commercial fishermen. Its coast is sprinkled with small islands, golden beaches, and blue lagoons. The waters off the coast of Mazatlan offer fantastic sportfishing for marlin and sailfish.  San Blas lies between Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta.  Go inland and visit Fort San Basilio, which overlooks the town and offers a great view of the countryside.

Puerto Vallarta-  “PV” is a growing destination that maintains the charm of a remote tropical getaway.  Some of the best shops in the country are found in Puerto Vallarta. There is also excellent fishing for marlin, yellow-fin tuna, wahoo, snapper, and many more.  Three bird and fish sanctuary islands are offshore of PV, and enjoy excellent whalewatching from November to March.

Manzanillo- The wide beaches along two large bays identify the small city of Manzanillo. Santiago Bay on the north, and Manzanillo Bay on the south, are separated by the Peninsula de Santiago.  This area is also known for wonderful deep-sea fishing.

Ixtapa/Zihautenajo- These twin cities have very distinct personalities.  Zihautanejo is a rustic fishing village where you can observe the labors of the local fishermen and artisans along the coastline. Ixtapa lies five miles to the north and is a cosmopolitan affair offering fine dining, championship golf courses and pristine beaches.

Acapulco- Mexico’s original seaside resort. Along the Costera, the coastal highway, awaits an adventure of restaurants and nightclubs that do not close until the sun comes up.  Acapulco is home to the famous cliff divers of La Quebrada.

Huatulco- In the Bahias de Huatulco, discover nine beautiful bays and more than thirty gold-sand beaches strewn with boulders and colorful coral reefs.  More than half of the area is an ecological reserve. Tranquility, rest and relaxation are the focus in Huatulco.

Los Cabos- The stretch of coastline from Cabo San Lucas to San Jose del Cabo on Baja California is known as Los Cabos or “the Capes.”  Cabo San Lucas is the more modern of the two capes and has a buzzing nightlife.  San Jose del Cabo offers horseback riding on the beach and a marketplace with an authentic Mexican atmosphere. Los Cabos is best identified by the image of the world famous rock formation “El Arco,” located where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortes.
