Alaska Alaska, the 49th and largest of the United States, is a snow-capped palace, glacier reserve and wildlife frontier. Most Alaskan yacht charters explore the southeast panhandle section of the state along the Inside Passage. The region is habitat for vast wildlife, including bald eagles, whales, sea lions, sea otters and porpoises. The deep blue waters follow endless channels, fjords, straits and bays stretching from Ketchikan north some 350 miles to Skagway. The land is comprised primarily of the Tongass National Forest, a temperate rainforest, and Glacier Bay National Forest, with 16 active tidewater glaciers. The outer coast of Chichigof Island is a Natural Wilderness Area home to eagles, herons, whales, sea otters and Alaskan brown (grizzly) bears. Weave through the channels to White Sulphur Hot Springs and warm your soul while soaking up the minerals and the breathtaking view. Juneau, Alaska’s capital, is located on the Inside Passage and boasts lush terrain and vibrant wildflowers. The fjords and glaciers of Tracy’s Arm are a 50-mile cruise south. Misty Fords National Park near Ketchikan has towering 3,000-foot high cliffs rising straight up from the channel waters. Ketchikan itself has the world’s largest collection of totem poles and is the cultural center of the area. Sitka on Baranof Island is protected by Cape Edgecumbe and many small islands. The original capital of Russia-America, Sitka remains permeated by Russian influences. Mt. Edgecumbe, a dormant volcano, rises more than 3000 feet above the sea. Deep Cove on Baranof Island contains 4000-foot vertical walls, 2000-foot waterfalls and green forests. Fish the Cove halibut and salmon and enjoy the spectacular views. Frederick Sound is one of many exhilarating whalewatching grounds along the way. The majority of Admiralty Island National Monument is an evergreen rainforest with several major bays and inlets penetrating deep inland and providing opportune anchorages. The small bays and streams also provide prime kayaking areas. Seymour Canal is home to one of the largest populations of nesting bald eagles in the world. Wildlife and nature opportunities lie around each bend during your southeast Alaskan yacht charter. Extraordinary views, whalewatching and other wildlife encounters abound. Fish the pristine waters for halibut, cod and salmon, to name a few. Your on-board dining likely will feature a sampling of these fresh catches, as well as other regional delicacies that you select. The geography and wildlife of the region are truly unique and make for an unforgettable yacht charter. |
